Like Radio 2 in general, Bruce reminds me of AC KVIL Dallas in its ’80s Ron Chapman heyday that station was the essence of personality-through-brushstrokes in a way that sometimes seemed to be nothing special, especially when all of mainstream music radio was similarly structured.Ĭridland notes that Radio 2 is a franchise that has already survived the recent departure of several high-profile personalities, including Greatest Hits co-worker Simon Mayo. Cridland describes the 71-year-old Bruce, who was making nearly 500,000 USD a year on Radio 2, as “amiable, quick witted,” and agreeable, but not galvanizing. He also covered the day-of excitement, which included a feature story on BBC-1 TV, and followed up with this after Bruce’s first half-hour. James Cridland wrote a good summary of Bruce’s career in January, after the move was announced. He moved to Bauer’s fast-growing national network, which has brought Classic Hits on FMs to numerous markets, including London, over the last five years.

Bruce came from 37 years at the UK’s non-commercial behemoth, which is still practicing full-service AC in a way long forgotten here. I highly recommended the concert very much. The conditions that made Ken Bruce’s move from BBC Radio 2 to middays at Greatest Hits Radio a national news story for the past three months would be hard to replicate in North America. Rick had the best vocal of the night, he still sang so well just like he did 30 years ago, Together Forever, It Would Take a Strong Strong Man, She Wants to Dance with Me, Cry for Help and the closing song Never Gonna Give You Up, I loved them all, so as the entire audience. The night ended with the best performance by Rick Astley. Eddie Money was ok, I liked Take Me Home Tonight but not familiar with his other songs. Starship was great, the audience went wild and sung alone with their #1 hits Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now, Sara, and We Built This City. UB40 was good, liked their big hits Red Red Wine and Can't Help Falling In Love. Night Ranger's Sister Christian was still a classic rock ballad, too bad they didn't perform Sentimental Street, one of my favorites from their hits.

Many people didn't recognize Colin Hay until he sang hits from Men at Work. NKOTB was a perfect group to kick off the concert with energized Right Stuff and Hanging tough. It was a great concert, brought back a lot of memory, the reason why i didn't give it a 5 stars rating just because not all the acts are my favorites but I still had a great night. Great music and fun concert, Rick Astley the best!
